Malumfashi, Funtua, and Bakori local government areas in Katsina State have signed a peace agreement with armed bandits, pledging to halt attacks, killings, and kidnappings starting October 12.
The peace pact took place in Kakumi, Bakori LGA, where bandit representatives came together with delegates from the three LGAs to engage in dialogue focused on ending hostilities.
Sources close to the talks disclosed that a significant breakthrough was achieved with bandit leaders committing to suspend all forms of violence within the affected communities.
The region has suffered severe setbacks due to persistent banditry, which disrupted food production and commerce.
Traditional rulers, community elders, and security officials were present at the meeting, urging all parties involved to uphold the agreement for lasting peace. Following this pact, residents of Malumfashi, Funtua, and Bakori express cautious optimism for sustainable peace. The state government plans to extend such agreements to additional LGAs and strengthen security infrastructure.
