Engr. Sagir Tanimu, Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government Area in Katsina State, attended a wedding ceremony involving the children of bandit groups as part of reconciliation strategies to foster peace in the region.
The wedding, held recently in Kadawan Dandume village, brought together government officials, traditional rulers, and local communities to reinforce a fragile peace pact between authorities and bandit factions.
This event follows several peace talks aimed at reducing hostilities in Katsina, which has been severely affected by banditry, kidnappings, and violence for years.
The chairman of Sabuwa council was accompanied by notable figures, including Alhaji Ibrahim Bello Kogo, a representative of the Emirate, and the District Head of Sabuwa.
Kadawan Dandume was only recently reconciled with local authorities after years of violent clashes involving the Fulani community.
Katsina State has been a hotspot in Nigeria’s fight against banditry, with over 1.3 million people displaced across the northwest since early 2025, according to the International Organisation for Migration.
Despite official peace agreements, some residents remain skeptical, noting that armed groups still influence daily life and demand levies.
