The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has conducted a special screening of 176 underage candidates who scored highly in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), offering a chance for early university admission in the 2025/2026 academic session.
This screening aimed to identify exceptionally brilliant students below the age of 16, ensuring that only well-prepared and outstanding candidates qualify for tertiary education.
The exercise took place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, across three examination centres located in Abuja, Owerri, and Lagos. The process involved a rigorous two-session examination followed by face-to-face interviews, conducted by experts appointed by JAMB.
Out of over 41,000 applicants under the underage category, only 599 scored 80 percent and above on their UTME, and 176 were shortlisted for the screening. Some candidates were disqualified for failing to meet required O-Level and Post-UTME standards. At the Abuja centre, 22 candidates were screened, while 38 attended the Owerri centre assessment.
The final results will be announced in no time by JAMB registrar Ishaq Oloyede, with many students waiting for the next steps for admission into universities based on the assessment.
