The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced it will prosecute Mr. Alkazim Kabir, a journalist from Kano, for allegedly defrauding individuals of about N14 million through impersonation and fraudulent schemes.

‎According to a statement released on Wednesday by ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare, Kabir, also known as Abbati Kabiru Abuwa, is accused of repeatedly impersonating senior government officials, including aides to the President and Vice President, as well as members of the National Assembly.
‎These acts reportedly enabled him to defraud victims who believed they were dealing with genuine public figures.

‎The investigation uncovered that Kabir obtained huge sums of money from victims under false pretenses. Specifically, in one case, he reportedly collected $3,300 and 1,620 Saudi Riyals while posing as a presidential and vice-presidential aide.

‎Bakare explained that the suspect often took advantage of international religious travel opportunities, such as Hajj and Umrah, to commit these frauds.Notably, during a trip to Mecca, Kabir allegedly borrowed 11,000 Saudi Riyals from another traveler but later sent a forged bank receipt claiming repayment. He also provided a fake transfer receipt worth N3.2 million to a travel agent who had managed his flight, hotel, and train bookings.

‎The ICPC has filed charges against Kabir, and his case will be assigned to a competent court for arraignment soon.
