Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on Borno South Senator Ali Ndume to advocate for an increased Senate budget allocations for Abuja projects, assuring that the funds will be effectively used.
The appeal was made during the launch of the Integrated (Hybrid) Solar Lighting installation across the districts and expressways of Abuja under the Light up Abuja program, Lots I and II.
Wike stressed the need for enhanced street lighting in the city to improve safety and infrastructure. He emphasized the current gaps in power supply in parts of Abuja, noting that certain areas lack basic street lighting at night.
Senator Ndume, who just came, I know where you are living, it has no street lights, but go home and sleep now without the street light, that is why each time you are in the Senate, make sure when we ask for one naira, increase it to five naira, knowing fully well the money will be utilized…each day we go out, you always give us support. It’s very important. I thank all of you and I invite you to join us as we flag off the light of our work – Wike
The minister explained how solar lighting installations would enhance visibility and security for residents and drivers across the capital. The program is meant to modernize the infrastructure and support sustainable development of the federal capital. The request of the FCT minister to Senator Ndume aimed to ensure that the budget for these vital projects is not only approved but increased sufficiently to meet the demands on ground.
