Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has accused the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, of partisanship after the police command abruptly withdrew from the Independence Day anniversary parade in Kano on October 1, 2025.
Speaking during the parade event, Governor Yusuf described the police withdrawal as a deliberate act that embarrassed Kano State on a historic national day. The governor emphasized that the action was an affront to the people of Kano and the spirit of Nigeria’s national unity.
He called on all security agencies to eschew partisan politics and remain committed to serving all tribes and states in Nigeria. Yusuf, who also serves as the Chief Security Officer of Kano State, condemned what he called the “unethical and partisan attitude” of the police commissioner, accusing him of disloyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The governor stressed that Kano remains peaceful and that the residents had been eagerly looking forward to celebrating Nigeria’s independence together. He criticized the police command’s last-minute decision to pull out of the parade as politically motivated, noting it was in defiance of court rulings affirming the state’s rights.
Governor Yusuf thanked other security agencies for their participation and reassured the public of his government’s commitment to sustaining peace and unity in Kano.
