Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has called for the swift removal of Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, accusing him of unprofessionalism and partisan conduct that threatens the state’s peace.

In a statement delivered through his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed strong condemnation of Commissioner Bakori’s directive to withdraw police participation from the 2025 Independence Day celebrations held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

The governor said the order came mere hours before the event, describing it as deliberate sabotage and a betrayal of the police’s constitutional duties. Yusuf argued that the Police Commissioner’s continued presence in office caused a serious security risk and accused him of political bias detrimental to Kano’s stability.

This development follows Bakori’s announcement just two days earlier of the arrest of 105 suspects connected to 30 major crimes in September, alongside recoveries of weapons and stolen items.

Despite these achievements, the governor emphasized that partisan behavior cannot be tolerated within the force. The Nigerian Police Force had not responded officially to the accusations at the time of reporting.

The governor seeks permission from the President, Bola Tinubu to direct the Inspector General of Police to remove Bakori and appoint a neutral, competent officer to restore public confidence in Kano’s policing.

He also took time to commend other security agencies in the state for their efforts in safeguarding lives and property.Police spokesman Abdullahi Kiyawa, a superintendent of police, indicated he would provide a comment on the issue later.
