The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday nationwide to mark Nigeria’s 65th anniversary of independence from British rule.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed and released by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Monday.
The Minister congratulated Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora and urged citizens to uphold the spirit of patriotism, unity, and resilience that has long sustained the nation since its independence in 1960. This year’s independence celebration is themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”, with activities already underway across the country, including prayer sessions at mosques and churches.
Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians to maintain faith in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity. He expressed optimism that with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the country would continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development.
