Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a respected news anchor and producer with ARISE News Channel, was tragically killed during an armed robbery at her home in Abuja’s Katampe area on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The 29-year-old journalist, affectionately known as Sommie, had built a reputation as a trusted broadcaster and a vibrant voice connecting viewers nationwide.
The attack occurred in the early hours, leaving colleagues, family, and the media community shocked and mourning the loss of a promising talent. ARISE News Channel released a statement confirming her death, describing Sommie as not only a dedicated journalist but also a trained lawyer whose professionalism extended beyond the newsroom.
The Nigeria Police have launched an investigation into the incident, seeking the perpetrators responsible for the violent act.
