A spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign council, Segun Showunmi, has dismissed allegations that the recent redeployment of his wife at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is a political reward.

Showunmi rejected the claims during an interview on Channels Television, dismissing the insinuations as baseless.

According to Daily Trust, Oluyemi Titilayo Adeyemi-Showunmi was transferred from her role in the Lagos State administration department to head the Electoral Operations Department. She replaces Isah Magaji Gummi, who was redeployed to the Voter Registry Department ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Showunmi, when asked if his inclusion in the ruling party’s campaign structure influenced the posting, defended the professional record of his wife:

“Don’t you dare say that about me. Reward who? Reward who? That’s a civil servant. She’s a Level 17 officer and has worked in INEC all of her life,” he stated.

Showunmi made reference to her track record of neutrality by recounting the 2023 presidential election results in her former duty station, stressing that Peter Obi won Lagos State while she served as its administrative secretary.
