The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the traditional Independence Day parade that was planned for Nigeria’s 65th anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

In a press release issued Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the cancellation decision was confirmed without stating a specific reason.

However, the government reassured Nigerians that the cancellation does not lessen the importance of this celebration.

As for many Nigerians, the Independence Day parade has always been an hallmark event organized to mark Nigeria’s independence anniversary, attracting nationwide attention. Despite the cancellation, other scheduled programs for the day will proceed as planned. Earlier, the government declared October 1 a public holiday to commemorate the 65 years of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

The Federal Government assured the public that all other anniversary activities will continue as scheduled.  More updates will be shared by Dawn Herald as the celebrations unfold.
