The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained three individuals suspected of supplying narcotics to terrorists and bandits in Borno and Yobe states, disrupting key drug trafficking routes in the North-East.
The NDLEA officers arrested 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim at Njimtilo village, Borno, on September 27. He was stopped while driving a Mercedes Benz GLK along Damaturu road, where agents discovered 39,380 tramadol and Exol-5 tablets carefully concealed in the vehicle’s engine compartment.
On the same day in Yobe State, operatives apprehended Halima Adamu carrying 1.4 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis variant, hidden inside her travel bag on the Damaturu-Maiduguri road. A rapid follow-up led to the capture of Habiba Muhammad at her residence in Maiduguri, connected to the illicit cargo.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi explained that these arrests were meant to dismantle drug supply chains that empower violent groups in the northern region.
Additional seizures occurred when two men, Aliyu Sani and Yahaya Tata, were arrested on the Zaria-Kano road with over 30,000 tramadol pills. In Bayelsa, three suspects were caught at the Swali jetty with 12 kilograms of skunk cannabis and ammunition. Furthermore, 45-year-old ex-convict Femi Owoeye, previously jailed for drug trafficking, was detained in Ekiti with 32 kilograms of skunk and tramadol pills.
