The speculation about whether former President Goodluck Jonathan will enter the upcoming Presidential election deepened on Thursday night when he paid a visit to David Mark, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

This encounter occurred just hours after ADC concluded its inaugural National Caucus meeting in Abuja, where the party officially established itself as the coalition’s political platform.

Several key figures from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been actively encouraging Jonathan to throw his hat into the ring and challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 race.

Jonathan, who previously led Nigeria before losing to the late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, would be eligible to serve only one term should he decide to contest and win.

Although the specific agenda of the discussion remains unclear. Mark served as Senate President during Jonathan’s tenure, and the two have maintained a solid working rapport.

It was under Mark’s leadership that the National Assembly crafted the doctrine of necessity, which allowed Jonathan to act as President amid the health crisis of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
