The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has handed over cheques amounting to Two Billion, One Hundred and Seventy-One Million Naira, One Hundred and Twenty-Four Thousand Naira, Forty-One Kobo, and Eighty-Seven Kobo (₦2,171,124,041.87) to 1,574 beneficiaries comprising next-of-kin of fallen police officers.
The announcement came during a ceremony at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, attended by the Force Management Team, representatives from the insurance sector, and the beneficiaries themselves.
This contribution enhances the Force’s supports to families of officers who have died in service under the Group Life Assurance and the IGP Family Welfare programs. It covers policy years spanning from 2015 through 2025, including settlements of long-pending claims that had remained unresolved for almost a decade.
Since Egbetokun took office, this installment marks the 11th payout. In total, over Twenty-Four Billion Naira (₦24.2 billion) has been allocated, benefiting 9,735 families who have endured the loss of loved ones while serving the nation.
He reaffirmed that enhancing the welfare of all officers, active, retired, or deceased, remains a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda. He added that they are redesigning their welfare system to be more robust, transparent, and fully digital to guarantee timely payment of entitlements.
The IGP extended his gratitude to the Force Insurance Unit for its dedication, to the insurance firms for meeting their commitments, and to the Ministry of Police Affairs for its guidance. He also expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering backing of police welfare programs.
