Six employees of United Capital tragically lost their lives following a devastating fire that engulfed Afriland Towers, a six-storey commercial building in Lagos on September 16.
The blaze reportedly originated from the inverter room located in the building’s basement. In addition to the United Capital’s staff, the fire also claimed the lives of four officials from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
In a statement released Monday, United Capital, a leading pan-African investment and financial services group, expressed sorrow over the loss of their colleagues and announced plans to hold a memorial service to commemorate their lives.

The identities of the deceased United Capital employees were disclosed as:
- Jesutoni Shodipo, 21, a graduate intern in the compliance department
- Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, 41, working in the trustees division
- Kehinde Adeoye, 36, a compliance officer
- Olumide Oyefodunrin, 27, a trust officer
- Opeyemi Oloyede, 26, a compliance intern
- Rebecca Adenuga, 26, an executive associate in the wealth management department.
Investigations continue as authorities intensify efforts to enforce stricter building safety regulations following the tragedy.
