Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration has begun an extensive restoration of the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Market, returning it to its original layout after years of unauthorized expansion and disorder.
This cleaning and reorganization project, praised even by government critics, is seen as a step toward boosting commerce and restoring order in one of Adamawa State’s busiest trade centers.
Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Trade, and Industries, Ishaya John Dabari, revealed that the Ministry has collaborated closely with the Urban Planning Department and security agencies to carry out this overhaul. A challenge identified was the obstruction of most access points, leaving only two gates operational. This congestion disrupted vehicular movement, discouraged shoppers, led to losses for traders, and reduced government revenue.
He further stated that no trader who legally owns a shop has been affected by the current clearance. He added that they have conducted numerous meetings with market stakeholders beforehand, ensuring they were well-informed with ample advance notice.
He emphasized that the market’s reorganization is intended not only to restore order but also to improve safety, accessibility, and overall appeal for vendors and customers alike.
In a related move, Governor Fintiri announced plans to build a new Building Materials Market featuring over 2,000 modern shops. This upcoming complex aims to offer traders a more structured and secure environment, bolster economic activities, and create jobs across the state.
Governor Fintiri expressed commitment to investments that will sustain commercial vitality and empower local entrepreneurs throughout the region.
