‎A violent assault on the 152 Task Force Battalion in Banki, Bama LGA, Borno State, on Thursday night left many civilians feared dead and scores injured, who were later transferred to Cameroon for medical care.

‎On the night of the attack, militants targeted both the town of Banki and its military base, resulting in the destruction of properties and loss of life. Local authorities confirmed the deaths of five civilians and injuries to six others, all currently receiving treatment across the border in Cameroon. Many residents fled the area in search of safety after the violence shattered the community’s sense of security.

‎Military officials acknowledged a fierce firefight with the insurgents but emphasized that the troops maintained their position and were not displaced from their base. One soldier’s death was confirmed, with more than four military vehicles reported destroyed by fire during the confrontation.

‎The Acting General Officer Commanding of the 7 Division promptly visited Banki for a firsthand evaluation, reassured that the situation was under control, and praised the high morale among the troops still stationed there.

‎Local government representatives continue to urge resilience and prayer for peace while mourning the recent atrocities. Bama’s Executive Chairman encouraged the community to remain united and announced a financial package of N500,000 to compensate families of the victims.

‎Banki residents are clamouring for enhanced security measures and increased military support for lasting peace and protection from further attacks.
