The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has instructed the Department of Urban Control to tear down newly erected structures by Paulo Homes within River Park Estate, Abuja.

Speaking to journalists during a weekend visit to the estate, Wike explained that Jonah Capital, a Ghanaian firm involved in the dispute, held an expired Development Lease Agreement (DLA). This led to the cancellation of their Certificate of Occupancy in accordance with clause 9.2 of the agreement.

The minister emphasized that Paulo Homes was an unrelated third party with no valid dealings with the FCT Administration. He also pointed out that the Canadian company’s arrangement with a third party violated the terms of the lease.

Wike stated that when he mentioned the lease had expired, developments should have ceased. However, the minister added that Paulo Homes commenced construction overnight to counter the administration’s authority, which is not acceptable. He stated that, the Department of Urban Control was deployed to demolish all works and this action will proceed.

He appealed to those unaware of the situation, doing so at their own risk. He added that they will not be deterred by any form of intimidation, and that all activities must be lawful and properly conducted.

The FCTA has reassured that Certificates of Occupancy will be restored to Nigerians who may have obtained or built properties in the estate under questionable circumstances, stressing that no one intends to dispossess rightful owners.
