Nigerian Army personnel successfully detained two men suspected of multiple abductions in Karim Lamido, Taraba State, following a targeted raid on September 19, 2025. The operation was a component of a security operation named Operation Lafiya Nakowa.
The capture took place in the Garau area of Rafin Taba community, based on actionable intelligence about criminal activities linked to kidnapping in the region. The suspects, Ibrahim Umaru and Adamu Malam Musa, were seized during a military strike conducted by troops of the 6 Brigade under Operation Whirl Stroke.
Authorities revealed that both individuals are well-known for orchestrating and carrying out various kidnappings within Taraba and neighboring areas. Early interrogations exposed their involvement in demanding hefty ransoms from victims’ families. The detainees also disclosed methods used to evade, capture, including moving hostages across state boundaries into Plateau State, particularly to the forested zones known for harboring criminals.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, emphasized the professionalism and courage demonstrated by the soldiers. Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of the operation, praised the team’s accomplishment as reinforcement of the brigade’s commitment to eliminating threats that disrupt peace and socioeconomic progress in Taraba.
The military reinforced its promise to sustain and intensify the crackdown on illicit networks in partnership with other security agencies until normalcy returns.
The Nigerian Army continues to lead campaigns against kidnapping rings in Taraba State and calls on citizens to assist by supplying credible information. Moreover, law enforcement warned perpetrators to cease illegal acts or face strict military consequences.
