Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has resumed office after a six-month suspension marked by emergency governance. In a statewide address, he urged all parties to set aside past conflicts and focus on rebuilding peace and progress for the region.
Following the political upheaval that led to the imposition of emergency rule on March 18, 2025, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rivers State has experienced diverse challenges. Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, who was appointed as Sole Administrator during the crisis, handed back authority after the president’s directive on September 17, 2025.
Governor Fubara acknowledged the difficulties endured but stressed his commitment to cooperation throughout the period, recognizing the importance of stability and development for the state’s future. He reflected on the decision to accept the emergency declaration without contest, describing it as a sacrifice necessary to restore calm.

He mentioned that prominent leaders, including former Governor Nyesom Wike and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, have agreed to move beyond the divisions that triggered the crisis.
He stressed that the opportunity now lies with the government and local leaders to foster reconciliation and prioritize the well-being of Rivers residents.
During his address, the governor also expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for his decisive role in resolving the conflict and restoring democratic norms.
Acknowledging lingering concerns among citizens, Fubara reassured the public that the peace process remains flexible and open to further refinements.
Despite recent setbacks, the leadership mentioned notable achievements under the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, in infrastructure, healthcare, and education over the past two years. The governor said that he is ever committed to complete ongoing projects and revitalizing the economy to improve living standards across the state.
Fubara added that he is also committed to working closely with the Rivers State House of Assembly to accelerate social and economic recovery, saying that his intentions is to govern with humility, dedication, and with the fear of God.
Fubara thanked the resilient people of Rivers State for their patience, courage, and peaceful behavior during the emergency period. He praised various community leaders, civil society groups, and citizens both locally and abroad for their prayers and support.
The governor urged all citizens, regardless of political or ethnic background, to unite in rebuilding Rivers State and securing a prosperous future for all.
