Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has endorsed the requests made by resident doctors who went on strike since September 15, 2025, over unpaid salary arrears. The minister announced the development on Friday during the launch of the Northern Parkway construction in Abuja.

Dawn Herald reported that the health workers had initiated a work stoppage earlier this week to press for overdue payments and other pressing concerns after lengthy unresolved talks with the FCT Administration. Their grievances included unpaid wages spanning one to six months, owed to medical staff hired since 2023.

Beyond salary arrears, the doctors are advocating for the immediate hiring of additional personnel, fulfillment of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, and clearance of debts which results due to the recent adjustment in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure. They also seek definite timeframes for promotion skipping and conversion processes, alongside the settlement of all accumulated entitlements.

During the construction kickoff on Shehu Yar’Adua Way, by Life Camp in Abuja, Minister Wike applauded the medics for their decision to end the strike, emphasizing that the move aligns with the well-being of patients and the territory at large. He confirmed that all documentation containing the doctors’ demands had been signed and authorized on his desk.

Wike also instructed the FCT acting Head of Service and the Senior Special Adviser on administration, Samuel Atang, to ensure swift implementation of the agreements.
