Nigerian culinary star Hilda Baci has officially earned a Guinness World Record for preparing the largest portion of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilograms. The event took place last Friday in Victoria Island, Lagos, in collaboration with Gino Nigeria.

This cooking achievement was officially acknowledged by Guinness World Records (GWR) today Monday, 15th September 2025, validating the feat accomplished by the renowned chef and food brand partner. The colossal dish tipped the scales at 8,780 kg (approximately 19,356 pounds), setting a new global benchmark for Nigerian-style jollof rice servings.

The record-breaking event was announced on social media by GWR, who praised Hilda’s accomplishment and the partnership with Gino Nigeria in Lagos.

Previously famous for her intense 93-hour solo cookathon in Lekki back in May 2023, Baci’s exploits have captivated audiences both within Nigeria and beyond. Her pioneering spirit ignited a surge of enthusiasm across Africa, inspiring numerous people to pursue their own cooking marathon records.

Guinness World Records also offered words of support leading up to the occasion by sharing a video from the event and cheering Hilda on as she went for the monumental preparation.

It is worth noting that since Hilda set the marathon cooking record, it has been surpassed twice, first by Alan Fisher from Ireland, and later by Australia’s Evette Quoibia.

Hilda Baci’s record-breaking achievements have inspired more chefs and food enthusiasts to showcase the richness of African culinary traditions. Plans for future culinary projects and record attempts may well be on the horizon, fueled by the enthusiasm generated by this event.
