President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a nationwide address on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) in Abuja, charged with overseeing all activities lined up for this celebration. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, explained that this team is responsible for coordinating, planning, and carrying out approved programs connected to the anniversary.
Akume emphasized the nation’s journey through political, economic, and social challenges, and its resilience in overcoming them.
The government’s schedule shows a rich line-up of events beginning with a World Press Conference on Thursday, September 25, followed by a Juma’at Service and women-focused activities on the next day. Youth gatherings and an exhibition showcasing the nation’s artistic history are planned for Saturday, September 27. A Church Service will take place on Sunday, September 28, followed by a public lecture on Monday, September 29. The climax of these festivities will be the President’s address paired with the Independence Day parade on October 1.
In a related move, the SGF’s office also disclosed the launch of the Nigeria@65 Compendium Project, developed in collaboration with CherryAfrica Magazine. This archival project will meticulously document Nigeria’s achievements in governance, economic growth, and national development over the decades.
