Youth groups representing Northern Nigeria voiced concerns on Thursday about escalating political unrest, especially in Kebbi State, and appealed to security officials to maintain peace as the election period nears.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna’s Arewa House, Muhammad Isah Imam, the Forum’s Media Director, said the region faces serious security threats and cannot withstand further disturbances caused by political conflict.

He called on politicians and their supporters to engage in peaceful and responsible activities, stressing the crucial need to uphold stability ahead of upcoming elections.

The Forum drew attention to recent clashes in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Kogi states, urging authorities to take preventative steps against further violence. Imam praised security forces in Kaduna for their prompt response and encouraged similar measures in Kebbi.

While affirming the right to freedom of speech and assembly, the group insisted that these freedoms must not endanger public safety or social harmony.

The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Discussion Forum encouraged collaboration among security agencies, political figures, and communities to ensure Kebbi and other Northern states remain calm as voters prepare for the electoral process.
