Former Kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has commissioned a 44-member panel to examine the case of approximately 1,000 Hisbah members who were reportedly dismissed by the state government.

Led by Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, director general of the National Productivity Centre, the group is tasked with confirming the identities of the affected individuals and investigating possible routes for their reinstatement or new placement.

Speaking on behalf of Ganduje, Dan Agundi explained that the review aligns with instructions from the ex-governor, who also previously chaired the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level.

The recent departure of these Hisbah operatives has raised concerns among community and political stakeholders, many of whom are urging a thorough reassessment of the circumstances that led to their removal.

He added that the Hisbah have historically played a vital role in upholding moral behaviour and enforcing Islamic principles throughout Kano, serving as a cornerstone of the state’s social and religious framework.

The committee is expected to present its conclusions and recommendations within a designated period, potentially opening the door for policy adjustments aimed at resolving the grievances raised by the dismissed staff.
