More than 300 residents have been forced to flee after a series of violent assaults razed 30 houses in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State. Although no deaths were reported, the rampage caused considerable damage to farmlands and storage facilities.

In recent days, several villages within Qua’an Pan LGA have experienced bouts of unrest, while communities including Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom in the Doemak District bearing the brunt of the destruction. The attacks disrupted livelihoods, especially that of local farmers, many of whom saw their barns and produce destroyed.

These violent events followed a tragic incident six days earlier in Fili village, where four herders lost their lives and another sustained injuries while tending their cattle. Herders from the area recounted the unexpected nature of the assault, describing the shock within the community.

Confirming the recent violence, Qua’an Pan Local Government spokesman Danaan Cletus Sylvanus informed said that the council chairman, Christopher Manship, personally visited the ravaged areas. According to Sylvanus, Manship convened an emergency meeting with stakeholders, urging vigilance and cooperation among residents.

Sylvanus added that the Executive Chairman, Christopher Manship, has called on everyone, traditional rulers, faith leaders, and development associations, to unite in tackling this crisis and restoring calm.

Efforts are underway to mobilize security forces to stabilize the situation and accelerate the return of peace.
