Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, who once led the Nigeria Customs Service as Comptroller-General, has died. His passing was confirmed by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a social media post on Thursday.
Governor Fintiri mourned the loss of the former customs leader, praising him as a dedicated and honorable public servant whose contributions will be long remembered.
Deeply saddened by the loss of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Musdafa, ex-CG of Customs. A man of service and integrity whose legacy endures. My prayers go out to the Lamido of Adamawa, the Musdafa royal family, and all who are grieving. May Allah bless him with Aljannah Firdaus – Governor Fintiri Wrote
Mustapha was the elder sibling of the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, and bore the esteemed traditional title of Sardauna Adamawa.
Beginning his career as a young cadet, Mustapha gradually advanced through the ranks of the Nigeria Customs Service before being appointed its head in 1999, coinciding with the advent of the Fourth Republic. His leadership period was noted for his efforts to curb smuggling activities, and he took on key roles in several national task forces combating economic sabotage.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Mustapha received the Ministerial Award for Outstanding Performance in 1988.
After over three decades of devoted service, he retired in December 2003. Even post-retirement, he remained a venerated elder statesman within the customs fraternity and the Adamawa Emirate, where his advice continued to carry great weight up until his death.
