An eyewitness from the community, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the deceased, identified as Inspector Shedrack, may have been fatally shot accidentally during the melee. According to this source, tension escalated when three police Hilux vehicles carrying roughly 30 officers reportedly intercepted and discharged gunfire at an NSCDC vehicle transporting mining equipment.
The witness explained,
During the heated situation, Shedrack reportedly sought to disarm one of the civil defence officers. However, while other policemen aimed their weapons at the NSCDC personnel, they mistakenly shot their colleague instead. Tragically, he died instantly, and several others were injured
