President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived back in Abuja early Thursday following a productive three-day state trip to Brazil.

The visit culminated in multiple bilateral agreements designed to enhance trade, investment, and scientific cooperation between Nigeria and South America’s largest economy.

Landing at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 1:20 a.m., president Tinubu was welcomed by a robust delegation comprised of state governors, top government officials, and legislative leaders. Among those greeting him were Governors Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Hope Uzodinma (Imo), and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), alongside the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin.

This diplomatic excursion bore massive fruits, with President Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva overseeing the endorsement of five Memorandums of Understanding spanning sectors such as aviation, commerce, science, foreign policy, and financial services. A standout agreement paves the way for direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo facilitated by Air Peace.
Additionally, the discussions heralded the anticipated return of Brazil’s state-owned energy giant, Petrobras, to Nigerian ventures after a five-year pause.

We have the largest gas repository. So I don’t see why Petrobras doesn’t join as a partner in Nigeria as soon as possible. I appreciate President Lula’s promise that this will be done – President Tinubu

The president urged the Nigerian community in Brazil;

We must bring Nigeria to the forefront of Africa’s progress, driven by technology, food sovereignty, and the courage to change our destiny

Other accords focus on enhanced political dialogue, joint scientific research programs, and agricultural funding collaborations through Nigeria’s Bank of Agriculture and Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development. Throughout the visit, president Tinubu  emphasized the achievements made under his administration to improve the economic climate by fostering transparency, stability, and innovation.

Prior to the Brazil engagement, President Tinubu attended the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), further reinforcing Nigeria’s international outreach.
