Former governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai confirmed he will not seek any political office in the 2027 elections. Stating his commitment to fostering trustworthy governance, he called on Nigerians, especially youth, to unite and bring about meaningful reform.
El-Rufai welcomed a delegation of youthful former PDP members who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of Aliyu Bello, at an event held on Wednesday in Kaduna. The ex-governor pointedly criticized the current administration’s performance, stating the nation’s struggles are evident without the need for detailed explanation.
This government operates on falsehood daily, and conscience reveals the reality to all. I am stepping away from seeking any elected role; I have no desire to join the Senate or any other position. My appeal to you is to collaborate and oust these oppressive forces – El-Rufai
Initially planning to retire from partisan affairs upon completing his tenure, El-Rufai noted that the current political challenges necessitated his re-engagement, not for personal gain but as a call to duty. He conveyed his intention to empower youth, women, and reform-driven individuals to take control of Nigeria’s political landscape and catalyze transformation.
He urged young people across the nation to register to vote. He contrasted registration statistics, mentioning that while states like Lagos and Osun witnessed over 600,000 registrants, Kaduna lagged considerably with only 60,000.
If you are at least 18 years old, use any means, even your phone, to register. This process grants you the power to decide your leaders – El-Rufai
As the 2027 general elections approaches, Nigerians anticipate further campaigns to mobilize voters and reinforce democratic institutions in the months ahead.
