Nigerian troops alongside the Air Force successfully neutralized more than 35 terrorists linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) around Kumshe, a border community in Borno State.
The operation came in response to a militant assault on military positions earlier that day.
The combined ground-and-air effort targeted four distinct militant gathering points, employing precise aerial bombardments to weaken insurgent forces. This mission, is a coordinated move to suppress jihadist activities in northeastern Nigeria, also aimed to secure strategic locations and interrupt enemy supply chains.
Military officials explained that intelligence gathered from various sources enabled the Air Component to carry out multiple airstrikes consecutively, effectively dismantling key terrorist assembly sites. These strikes not only inflicted heavy losses but also restored communication with embattled ground troops who had faced imminent risk during the assault.
Following the air attacks, soldiers on the ground reported a stabilized situation, reinforcing control over the contested area. The military’s statement described the recent moves as a ramping up of efforts designed to dominate the operational environment and restrict insurgent mobility.
Earlier in this year, the armed forces claimed to have eliminated nearly 600 armed insurgents, indicating a more vigorous push compared to last year.
Relying on actionable intelligence from multiple channels, our Air Component carried out precision operations that have successfully disrupted terrorist activities and inflicted significant casualties. Thanks to coordinated air support, our troops regained control and communications swiftly, which was critical in stabilizing our positions and deterring further attacks – Military Personnel
Military sources pledge continued vigilance and readiness to maintain pressure on insurgent networks until lasting stability is achieved.
