He stressed the need for sustainable support to enhance their role in nation-building.
Dr. Vanessa Phala, ILO Country Director, represented by Mr. Stephen Agugua, reaffirmed the ILO’s commitment to job creation through MSMEs. She highlighted ongoing stakeholder engagements to address challenges and develop sustainable solutions for the sector’s growth.
Ms. Varsha Redkar-Palepu, UNDP Deputy Director, represented by Ms. Claire Henshaw, described MSMEs as vital for job creation, innovation, and social inclusion, particularly for women and youth. She urged prioritizing MSMEs in Nigeria’s development agenda to transform opportunities into tangible outcomes.
The event drew stakeholders from SMEDAN, NASME, NASSI, CAC, NAICOM, NSITF, and the Abuja Chamber of Commerce. Highlights included an MSME exhibition, UNDP and government engagement presentations, and WIPO’s discussions on intellectual property support for small businesses.
