The Bauchi State Police Command warned residents against climbing telecommunication masts for attention, citing severe risks of falls and radiation exposure, following a viral video incident.
The warning was issued on Monday by SP Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement addressing a recent video showing a young man climbing a mast in Bauchi. Wakil emphasized the dangers of such stunts, which pose life-threatening risks to individuals and public safety.
Wakil noted that climbing masts not only endangers the climber but also disrupts telecommunications services, affecting communities reliant on connectivity. He urged residents to prioritize safety and avoid such reckless acts for social media attention or personal gain.
The police statement highlighted that the Bauchi State Command is intensifying efforts to educate the public on safety protocols. They called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to discourage youths from engaging in dangerous activities for fame.
The command vowed to take strict measures against violators to deter such behavior. Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities near telecommunication infrastructure to the nearest police station for prompt action.
