Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has secured a spot at the 2025 World Championship set to take place in Adelaide, Australia.
The duo of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa sealed the qualification after defeating Egypt 2-1 (21-14, 20-22, 15-9) in a thrilling third-place match at the CAVB Continental Championship in Martil, Morocco.
The victory not only earned Nigeria a podium finish but also underscored the team’s growing prominence in African beach volleyball. Head coach Kayode Ajilore commended the players for their resilience and discipline throughout the competition. “The players have shown the world that the African Games silver medal was no fluke. They played to every instruction given to them,” he said.
Ajilore described the result as a reward for the team’s collective effort and unwavering commitment. He praised the leadership of Engineer Musa Nimrod, President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, for fostering opportunities for Nigerian athletes. “I want to thank Engineer Musa Nimrod for believing in us and giving us the platform to excel,” he noted.
The coach also extended gratitude to the Nigeria Volleyball Federation for its consistent support. He highlighted the crucial role of Samuel Onikeku, Sports Secretary of the Nigeria Customs Service, in boosting team morale and providing encouragement during the tournament in Morocco. “His presence really made a great boost to us,” Ajilore said.
With this qualification, Nigeria’s beach volleyball team continues its ascent on the continental and global stages. The players, along with the coaching crew and supporters, now look ahead to the 2025 championship in Australia with renewed confidence and ambition.
