Amid growing political tension within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), armed police officers on Monday took control of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The move follows anticipation surrounding the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, with sources confirming that security forces were deployed to halt a proposed expanded caucus meeting. “The police came to stop the NEC Expanded Caucus Meeting,” a party official revealed to journalists.

Initially, some staff members were permitted access to the premises, but were later asked to vacate. The development further fueled speculation about internal discord within the PDP leadership, as the presence of security personnel intensified. The show of force raised concerns among observers, with the party’s headquarters effectively placed on lockdown.

By the time reporters arrived at the scene, they too were ordered to leave, as law enforcement sealed off Dalaba Street, the main access road to Wadata Plaza—the PDP’s secretariat. The reason for the police action remains unclear, though it signals escalating internal strife and possible efforts to suppress factional gatherings within the party’s ranks.
