Olalekan Abiola, son of the late MKO Abiola, revealed that 66 of 120 individuals claiming to be his father’s children failed DNA tests, as disclosed during a June 12, 2025 interview.
Speaking at the family residence in Ikeja, Lagos, during the 32nd anniversary of the annulled 1993 election, Olalekan described the trauma of losing both parents—his mother assassinated and MKO dying in detention—due to the June 12 struggle.
He highlighted MKO’s charitable nature, rooted in Islamic values, which drew many women seeking aid, leading to false claims of paternity. MKO’s will mandated DNA tests, confirming only 54 children as his.
Olalekan criticized successive governments for failing to settle debts owed to MKO’s businesses by ministries like Communications and Defense. He urged President Tinubu to audit and pay these debts to the family.
He called for MKO’s recognition as an elected president, with his portrait in the Presidential Villa and benefits paid to the family, citing the June 12 struggle’s role in sustaining Nigeria’s 26-year democracy.
