The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), the umbrella body of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, has officially àacknowledged the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, àDr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

Following a strategic two-day meeting in Benin City, Edo State, the governors described his exit as a natural progression aligned with the party’s ongoing internal reforms and restructuring efforts.

Reading a communiqué at the end of the meeting, PGF Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, said the forum remains committed to strengthening party unity and advancing people-oriented development. He reiterated that the APC continues to evolve as Nigeria’s most structured political organisation, boasting a record of electoral wins and national cohesion.

“This meeting provided a crucial platform to harmonise development strategies, reinforce party cohesion, and reaffirm our Forum’s dedication to people-centred development, institutional accountability, and inter-governmental collaboration,” Uzodimma stated. The communiqué added that Ganduje’s resignation was a strategic decision rather than a sign of turmoil, characterising it as “in tandem with the party’s continued evolution.”

Another key development from the meeting was the official reception of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, into the APC. The governors described his defection, along with his supporters, as indicative of a broader national endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s reform-driven administration.

The governors also used the meeting to assess the country’s socio-economic landscape, expressing satisfaction with improving coordination between the federal and state levels. They praised the focus on reforms in fiscal policy, energy transition, infrastructural upgrades, and the social sector as pivotal to national renewal.

Commending key macroeconomic policies such as subsidy removal, currency unification, and debt restructuring, the PGF urged a stronger emphasis on inclusive growth. “While economic indicators show signs of recovery, growth must be further democratised through expanded investments in food security, job creation, poverty eradication, MSMEs, and social safety nets,” the communiqué noted.

The governors pledged continued support for economic decentralisation in line with constitutional provisions, highlighting the increased fiscal transfers to states and a surge in investor confidence. They maintained that several APC-led states are now attracting significant local and international investments, underscoring the effectiveness of current policy directions.
