Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has called on Nigerians to keep faith in the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Despite the national team’s struggles so far in the qualifying campaign, Nwabali stressed that the mission is far from over. “We still have a good chance to qualify despite our current position. We’re focused on the next game, and we’ll keep pushing to turn things around,” he told Bold Sports.

Nigeria currently sits in fourth place in Group C with six points from six games, having secured just one victory, four draws, and one loss. The Super Eagles trail group leaders South Africa by six points, while Rwanda and Benin are level in second and third spots. The situation has left fans worried, as the three-time African champions risk missing a second consecutive World Cup after failing to qualify for the 2022 edition in Qatar.

However, Nwabali remains optimistic that the team can still secure a ticket to the tournament. With 12 points still available from their remaining four fixtures, he believes the Super Eagles can close the gap. “It’s football — being Nigeria doesn’t automatically mean we’ll beat everyone,” he said. “We have to work hard and believe in ourselves.”

Nigeria’s qualifying journey resumes in September, when they will host Rwanda before traveling to face South Africa. The campaign concludes in October with an away game against Lesotho and a home clash against Benin, as the Super Eagles look to revive their hopes of making it to the 2026 World Cup.
