The Sokoto State Government has expressed its readiness to negotiate with bandits willing to surrender their weapons and reintegrate into society. This commitment was outlined in a statement by Retired Col. Ahmed Usman, Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security.

Usman emphasized the importance of dialogue over prolonged conflict, noting that many historical disputes have been resolved through negotiation. The government reaffirmed its dedication to peace and security, inviting armed groups to embrace reconciliation as part of a broader peacebuilding strategy.

The statement commended President Bola Tinubu, service chiefs, and security personnel for their efforts in safeguarding the region, while honoring fallen heroes. The government also supported the federal plan to deploy Forest Guards, urging that recruitment prioritizes integrity and that guards operate under conventional security agencies’ supervision.

The Sokoto administration stressed the need for effective communication between Forest Guards and local communities to build trust. This approach reflects the state’s focus on balancing security operations with community engagement to achieve lasting peace in the region.
