A Nigerian man, Chukwuma, was arrested by Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch on Tuesday for allegedly trafficking drugs worth over N214 million, during a raid in the city’s Avalahalli area.
The 38-year-old suspect was apprehended following a tip-off, with police seizing 5.325 kilograms of MDMA crystals, valued at Rs 1.2 crore. Authorities stated that Chukwuma, who entered India on a business visa in 2019, was distributing narcotics across Bengaluru’s outskirts. The operation was conducted by the CCB’s Anti-Narcotics Wing.
Preliminary investigations revealed Chukwuma’s involvement in drug trafficking since 2013, allegedly linked to an international syndicate. Police recovered two mobile phones and transaction records indicating connections to Nigerian bank accounts. Authorities are now probing his network, with a focus on identifying local and foreign accomplices.
Chukwuma, who claimed to be a cloth merchant, was remanded in custody at Chikkajala Police Station. The CCB is intensifying efforts to dismantle the syndicate, with Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda confirming ongoing surveillance to prevent further drug distribution in the city.
