Borussia Dortmund, Fluminense, and River Plate are set for thrilling group-stage matches in the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, with the draw finalized on Tuesday in Miami.
The tournament, running from June 14 to July 13, 2025, across 12 U.S. stadiums, features top clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich. Dortmund, drawn in Group G, will face Fluminense and River Plate, promising intense competition. The group stage includes eight groups of four, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout rounds.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the event as a new era for club football, with 11 venues hosting matches, culminating in the final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey. Other notable groups include Group A with Al Hilal and Inter Miami, and Group E featuring Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético Madrid. African champions Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca also secured spots.
Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke expressed excitement, noting the global stage offers a chance to showcase their strength. Fluminense’s coach Fernando Diniz anticipates tough battles, while River Plate’s management targets a deep run. The tournament’s format ensures high-stakes matches, with fans eagerly awaiting the opening fixtures.
