On June 10, 2025, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Muhammad Musa, ordered the redeployment of 2,277 illegally recruited teachers and recovered stolen school furniture to address educational mismanagement.
Musa, acting on findings from a state investigative committee, directed the teachers, hired beyond the approved 1,000 by the Teachers Service Commission, to be redistributed across Nasarawa’s 13 local government areas. The committee uncovered extortion and non-merit-based recruitment, prompting the recovery of furniture misappropriated by some headteachers.
The redeployment aims to balance teacher distribution and fill gaps in underserved schools, following Governor Abdullahi Sule’s February 2025 directive to suspend TSC officials for recruiting 3,277 teachers instead of 1,000. Musa emphasized merit-based postings to enhance educational standards, addressing Nasarawa’s historically low rankings in national education metrics.
The recovered furniture, including desks and chairs, was returned to schools to improve learning environments. Musa’s actions align with ongoing efforts to reform Nasarawa’s education sector, tackling corruption and ensuring resources reach students effectively.
