The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) has issued a warning against fraudulent job recruitment schemes falsely claiming to offer employment opportunities at the hospital.

The hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Usman Koli, clarified in a statement on Friday that ATBUTH is not conducting any recruitment exercises. Scammers are using a phone number, 08167069701, via WhatsApp, calls, and SMS to deceive job seekers with fake offers, particularly for a supposed contract to supply 200 HP laptops for the hospital’s digitization program.

Koli emphasized that no such procurement or recruitment process exists, and all legitimate hospital activities follow strict legal procedures. He urged the public to disregard unsolicited offers and report suspicious communications to authorities, warning that the hospital will not be liable for losses incurred from engaging with fraudsters.

The statement comes amid rising employment scams in Nigeria, with similar fraudulent schemes reported by organizations like the National Population Commission and Federal Road Safety Corps. These scams exploit high unemployment rates, targeting desperate job seekers with fake job listings and counterfeit communications.

ATBUTH is collaborating with security agencies to track and prosecute the perpetrators. The hospital advises vigilance and encourages the public to verify any job offers through official channels to avoid falling victim to such scams.
