Senator Shehu Sani, a former Nigerian lawmaker, in a statement released on Saturday, challenged Nigerians in their 30s, 40s, and 50s to transition from digital activism to active political participation.

Senator Sani urged this demographic to stop being spectators on social media and contests for elective offices to influence the leadership of the country.

The former senator stated that while few younger individuals in their 20s are winning local government and legislative seats, those in their prime years remain confined to debating on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.

Senator Sani stated that the comment section is not a substitute for political party registration or seeking a mandate. He challenged those in their 30s to 50s to register with political parties and aspire for leadership roles.

You are in your 30s, 40s or 50s, your Rep member is in his 30s and your House of Assembly member and Local Government Chairman are in their 20s. Excuse yourself from their comment section… register as a member of a political party. Don’t be discouraged or scared because you don’t have money to join politics. You need to hear the story of most of those you see in power today. It wasn’t an easy ride from the beginning – Senator Shehu Sani

‎Sani stated that lack of wealth should not stop aspiring youths from participating actively in politics. The Senator insisted that financial limitations are often used as an excuse, urging Nigerians to study the humble beginnings of many successful politicians who started their journeys without any huge resources.
