The Nigerian Army has officially opened applications for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026. Announced on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the recruitment is open to civilians and currently serving military personnel who possess specialized professional qualifications.
The Nigerian Army has invited qualified professionals to apply for commissions as officers through its Direct Short Service Commission. Unlike the standard combatant entry, this program focuses on individuals with technical and academic expertise to staff the specialized departments of the military.
The application portal opens on January 7 and will remain active until February 4, 2026. The Army emphasized that the process is entirely online and free of charge, warning applicants against possible recruitment scams.
The DSSC is a primary entry point for doctors, engineers, lawyers, and educators to join the Nigerian military as commissioned officers. These officers undergo a shorter period of training compared to regular combatant cadets but are expected to provide professional services in their respective fields.
Recruitment is limited to specific technical branches, which include the Nigerian Army Engineers, Signals, Medical Corps, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (NAEME), and the Education Corps.
Successful applicants will be commissioned into specialised corps of the Nigerian Army, where their expertise will support national defense and security operations
The application window will be open for four weeks, starting Wednesday, January 7, and closing on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited for a final selection board interview at the Nigerian Army Forces Selection Board (NAFSB).
