Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended Sheriff Umar, the alleged coordinator behind a suicide bombing that struck a mosque in Maiduguri on December 24.

‎The attack, which targeted worshippers during evening prayers at Gamboru Market mosque, killed five people and injured many. The Nigerian Army identifies Umar as a recruiter and logistics chief for a terror cell.

‎Umar was captured during a cordon-and-search operation in Kalmari area on New Year’s Eve, alongside 14 other suspects.

‎Umar was identified by a captured suicide bomber, Ibrahim Muhammad, who confessed that Umar recruited and dispatched him to target worshippers.

‎Dawn Herald gathered that the suspect’s wife, Yagana Modu, is allegedly involved, and his stepdaughter confirmed seeing suicide bombers being housed in their family residence.

‎Evidence links Umar to multiple plots, including the successful Gamboru attack and a foiled attempt in Damaturu, where he reportedly supplied IED components to a would-be bomber.
