The Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA), in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), has destroyed 5,520 cartons of expired noodles.
The items, found to have exceeded their shelf life, were all burnt on Wednesday, December 31, in the state capital, Dutse.
The noodles were already pre-positioned in all 27 local government areas of Jigawa before a last-minute directive from Abuja that postponed the distribution from November to December 2025.
Once the expiration date of December 2 was reached, the agency immediately retrieved the stock to prevent distribution or looting of the expired product.
The State Cold Chain Officer stated that the potential for food poisoning from the expired preservatives of the noodles outweighed the financial loss of the stock.
Once such items expire, they become a liability rather than support. Distributing them would have posed serious health risks, including food poisoning – Yusuf Inuwa, State Cold Chain Officer
The JSPHCDA has assured the public that fresh incentives are being sourced to ensure that the upcoming 2026 vaccination rounds remain attractive to rural families.
