The FCT Minister Nyesom Wike sent a message to his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while speaking at a weekend event in Emohua Local Government Area, stated that Fubara’s recent defection to the APC and his vocal support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not automatically earn him the return ticket for the 2027 governorship election.
This statement comes less than a month after Governor Fubara officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a meeting with the President at the Villa.
Wike stated that the loyalty of Fubara to the President is not sincere, but rather a tactical move ahead of the next gubernatorial poll. He stressed that his own faction, which includes 27 state lawmakers who defected earlier, are the only original supporters of Tinubu in Rivers state.
The issue is not whether you support Tinubu or not. That decision was taken long ago… All those now chanting ‘on your mandate we stand’ failed when it mattered most. They could not vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Supporting Tinubu alone cannot guarantee anyone a ticket – Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister
Since the assumption of Fubara as the Governor of Rivers State, the State has been battling with serious political crisis, which was settled by the intervention of President Tinubu, who declared a six-month state of emergency, which ended in September to curb the violence.
This statement, has obviously reignited the political rift between the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the Governor of Rivers State, Fubara over power struggles and control.
