A dispute has broken between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, over a multi-billion naira federal intervention fund meant for the victims of the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan.
The dispute escalated on Sunday, December 28, after Fayose accused Makinde of concealing a ₦50 billion payment from the Tinubu administration, alleging that the Governor was stashing the funds ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. Fayose to back his claim, shared documents on the social media platform, “X”, which he claims prove the ₦50bn approval.

The allegations laid by Fayose were aimed towards exposing the hidden reason Makinde recently declared that he will not support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and his refusal to help organize the APC in Oyo State.
Makinde responded to the allegations by clarifying that while a request for ₦50 billion was made, the Federal Government only released ₦30 billion.
Makinde’s Special Adviser, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, accused Fayose of acting as a political jester for personal interests, making reference with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. He dismissed the allegations raised by Fayose as false, stating that truth does not need protection, and that those documents released on X, are only proof of request.
The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has capitalized on the infighting and allegations laid by Fayose, demanding that Governor Makinde account for every kobo of the relief fund or resign immediately.
Now that his close friend and fellow party man has disclosed that a whopping ₦50bn was paid… Makinde should know that a flippant response by his media aide a not suffice. The public deserves to know what was done with the money – Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC Publicity Secretary
