FG declares December 25, 26, January 1 as public holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, respectively. Additionally, Thursday, January 1, 2026, has been designated as a public holiday for the New Year celebration.

The announcement was made on Monday, through a statement from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Minister Tunji-Ojo stressed the need for unity across Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to be committed to nation-building, and also pray for the security and progress of the nation.

‎The Christmas season and the New Year present an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of unity, show compassion to one another, and renew our collective commitment to nation-building – Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior

The Minister also pleaded on all Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious and to cooperate with security agencies throughout the festive period.
